Message to the Reader

Dear Reader,

The very core of my soul was shattered when my dear friend Essie Arthur took her own life. I felt so lost, alone, and completely devastated. How could this happen? Why did this happen? Questions I’m sure you have grappled with, during your personal suicide loss journey. My writing began in an uncontrolled fashion, an automatic reaction to the trauma I was suffering. It was primarily a survival mechanism. Then, I realized that perhaps, I could help another soul who felt as lost as I had, if I pushed forth and created a book in loving memory of my dear friend. It is my sincere wish that you might glean some comfort and support in this book as you move though its pages of denial, shock, sorrow, stark honesty, confusion, anger, and hope. I emerged from my heartache and hope you eventually will too. Life is definitely worth living.

Best wishes
Emily

Reviews

"In this deeply moving book, Ms. Emily Stuparyk gives voice to her pain in all its dimensions through a collection of poems and text that touch upon almost every aspect of the struggle of coping with the suicide of a loved one. Her poems and writings address not only the profound feelings of loss, but the less acknowledged feelings of betrayal and anger, the complications of coping with the reactions of others to one’s grief and confusion, the existential crisis posed by suicide, and the agony of dealing with the often unanswerable questions such as, 'Why did this happen?', 'Why didn’t I see it coming?' and 'What could I have done to prevent it?'"

Message to the Reader

Dear Reader,

This book is for those who share a concern for all animals. Anyone who has ever loved and lost an animal companion knows the incredible pain and feeling of emptiness. Poochie, my pet rabbit, died suddenly, at five years of age. As you read these poems, you will wish that you had known and loved her, as I had the great privilege to do.

Poochie is every dog, cat, bird, horse, rabbit, ferret, hamster, guinea pig, rat, iguana, or other animal that you have loved and lost. She lives in my heart and in every animal that I will love after her.

I hope that this book can be a close friend to you And a source of comfort that will help you through the pain of losing a pet.
